Ok. Well, I started to work on a serialised set of short stories about Anastasia and realised they didn’t work well that way. Still, I got some good stuff out of it so not a total loss.

I also got back to work on the Sal stroy. The chapter 3 stuck is over with — sort of. I still don’t have a chapter 3, but that’s because I have a new and improved (read: actually GOOD rather than near total shit) chapter 2. My hand hurts so I don’t feel like typing anything so long as that chapter tonight. I’ll get it put up soon though.

Also keep an eye on {Insert Clever Title Here} for some the wonderful work Shanny’s been getting up to. A short story collection called Tales From the Sword and Scroll.

And also — See the new Star Trek movie. It’s teh awesome. I know I’ve said this already, but it’s that great. Also Wolverine fucking rocked. Star Trek was better, but Wolverine rocked.

Diary

Here is the promised other WIP that was mentioned in an earlier post.

It uses WP software, but is on my personal machine so reliability isn’t 100% — but in any case, there it is.
Enjoy.

Fucking rocks.

Go see it.

Meet Gidgette. She’s my youngest Gnome character. She resides on Wyrmrest Accord, has a passion for shiny objects (especially of the Axelike persuasion), is not yet full grown (human equivocal age = 16) and is quite possibly one of the cutest Gnomes ever to grace the face of Azeroth.

Further posts to follow for other characters… as soon as they have enough screenshots to make a worthwhile gallery.

And of course future posts to show off other outfits and events in their lives.

I Am A: Chaotic Good Human Ranger (4th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength-11
Dexterity-16
Constitution-13
Intelligence-17
Wisdom-18
Charisma-14

Alignment:
Chaotic Good A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit. However, chaotic good can be a dangerous alignment because it disrupts the order of society and punishes those who do well for themselves.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter’s dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger’s Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Gnomeregan Freedom Force has been revamped and is looking for new members and volunteers.

We don’t just want anyone, though — not as members. Volunteers are always welcome. Just come as ye are and join in the parades, help us slay some troggs, donate money, donate gear, provide services, whatever.

However, if you’re driven to see a free Gnomeregan, to see Gnomes restored as a power in Azeroth instead of displaced refugees, if you wish to see the glorious technologies flowing out of the hallowed gates of the glorious technocity once more — then we want you to join.

Signing up with Gnomeregan Freedom Force gets you a lovely, and stylish tabard, and a Mechanical Squirrel. You gain access to funds and gear donated by volunteers and other members in our guild bank (3 tabs). Aid from fellow members in your quest to destroy the trogg menace and restore a measure of peace and prosperity to Azeroth.

Read the information available on our site, and then

  • Contact a guild officer
  • –OR–

  • Apply on the guild portal and a guild officer will contact you in-game within a week

Join today — no, positions aren’t limited… but you may want to get a head-start on the trogg hunting.

For those who don’t know — I play World of Warcraft. It’s a good game. I applaud the folks at Blizzard.

Frequently, though, I’d just love nothing more than to take a cast iron skillet to the thick skulls of some of the players.

Admittedly — some of what I’m about to rant about, is more just a desire to smack the living shit out of a lot of the human race (or at least the members of it that live in the US) in general, but WoW players are good at underscoring the issue.

What am I going on about?
Oh lots of things.

  • Griefers. Why?! WTF kind of jackassed fucked up retarded moron thinks this is fun? Do you really feel it’s important to draw as much attention as possible to the fact that you have a lower IQ than G. W. Bush?
  • “If I replace my PC with a Mac do I need to buy a new copy of the game?” You have got to be kidding me. Why don’t people ever look at the system requirements? Or, double check these things in the readily available data at the mfg’s website and various other sources before publicly asking a question which would have taken you less time to answer yourself than to have asked? I mean — did you never notice that when you select to redownload the game, you don’t specify system type? Did you not notice the very LARGE “Win/Mac” logo on the corner of every WoW box which is displayed all over just about anywhere that sells the damn thing? I work in tech support — this isn’t just WoW players, but really people if you were GURPS characters your Per score would be a negative number.
  • “Blizzard, <blah blah blah>Now I’ve got to respec<blah blah blah>” Oh, yes. Blizzard is holding a gun to your head and just forcing you to change your character. Yes, some patches refund your talent points and you have to reallocate them. 1) you aren’t forced to. You could elect to do without talents. May not be a great idea, but you’re free to do it. 2) if it means that damned much to you, it’s not like the damned patch notes aren’t up before the patch. You could write down how your points were spent and, for the most part restore your previous spec in a few seconds. It ain’t like that much really changes. 3) You don’t have to respec. You can keep the same spec. I really don’t get this perfectly idiotic idea that there’s some right or wrong way to play WoW. You play it. However you like. If you spend all your time dead, then you might consider that you’re doing something wrong. Otherwise, you’re fine — really. Chill out, it’s a game. No need to take it so seriously that you get all worked up over some fucking numbers.
  • Someone reaching level 42 and hadn’t realised there were different levels of gear quality and blaming the person that taught them to play. … Alright. First off, WoW is not complicated. You right or left click things depending how you want to interact with it. You’ve got your action bars… I mean nothing complex. The more advanced interactions and such can be dealt with with the handy guide on the back of the manual. What is there to teach?! That aside — why should that be something the person teaching you points out? It’s in the bloody manual. And certainly by the time you’ve reached level 42 you’ve seen grey, white, green and blue items — did it never occur to you to wonder WHY? Besides, you don’t need to know the difference. How can you play the game for 2 minutes without noticing that the gear has stats and that some gear has better stats than others?! Once you’ve got that worked out Blue, Green, Purple, Grey, White, or Plaid is irrelevant. Don’t blame the teacher — it’s one of those common sense things that should have gone without saying. Face it — you’re dense.
  • Creating a character on an RP server and a) refusing to follow the RP TOS, as in Blizzard’s stated rules that apply to all RP realms. b) Treating the RP going on around you as something weird. Hey, fucktard — it’s an RP server. Ever think, maybe, you’d be better off on a NON-RP server if you’re bothered by peple RPing? Fine, your friends are all on the server and so you made a character. That doesn’t mean you should use /yell and /say to say OOC things, bad mouth the RPers, and most of all it’s not an excuse to violate the RP naming requirements — you don’t HAVE to be named stupidstank, stupidsbank, and stupidshealz, it wouldn’t kill you to name the damned character.
  • PvP and Arena, Raids, or whatever the fuck your pet favourite game function is is not the be all and and all of WoW. Changes can be made to the game that aren’t meant to enhance that, or to change the way OTHERS percieve it (in the sense of nerfing this class or that stat because it gave an unfair advantage to certain individuals), and things like that. Some people get gear for aesthetics, some people take their time leveling because they’re busy enjoying the scenery. Fuck, some people don’t have a bunch of retarded godsdamned add-ons to the game to change their interface because — well — they aren’t necessary and some of us would rather conserve the CPU cycles for game play, or not have a bunch of annoying added visual elements cluttering the screen and getting in the way. Why must so many people assume that everyone uses whatever their pet add-on is? Is it so inconceivable that people might not wish to bother with any add-ons? It’s worst trying to find things. Is it so hard to take a damned screenshot of a map? Does it always have to be given as some damnable coordinate system from some stupid extra?

There. I’m done venting. This is, almost all, applicable to life in general. Believe me, there are a lot of my calls that are just people missing the bleeding obvious, having less than no common sense, or just being plain fucking stupid. Still, I see it a lot from gamers, and especially from MMORPG players and, I had some specific fodder where WoW was concerned. Really, a little common sense, a bit of thinking, a bit of paying attention for more than .004ns, and trying to use your brain for something other than an organ to cool the blood could go a long way toward making most WoW servers and the world in general a better place.

Thanks to the lovely folks at No-IP I have a URL for my server at home.

http://headlesspenguin.no-ip.org

No, I’m not abandoning this WP site. I rather like it for my general purposes.

What I DO plan to do is migrate some of my works in progress to there.
http://headlesspenguin.no-ip.org/Universal_Nexus will be a wiki (that only I and select others will have access to edit) for the GURPS Universal Nexus stuff until it’s all completed and compiled and then a PDF will be made and hosted here.

I plan to use WP software for at least one fiction that is a WIP. Sorta a Space Opera version of The Diary of Anne Frank and it will be at http://headlesspenguin.no-ip.org/diary — I think.
I’m still getting the servers configured and so neither of those links works.

headlesspenguin.no-ip.org says “It Works!” and I just have generic WP and Wiki servers set up and pointed to different places for testing.

I’ll put up a new post when things are ready.

Well — that’s all.

3rd chapter of Salandra’s Revolution still has no corporeal form… at all, I’m ashamed to say. All told I’ve been sleeping and reading — A LOT. I’ve not even been on WoW more than 2minutes in as many months. Things should be looking up soon, so expect more posts, more fiction, more chapters, etc… Also keep an eye on Raygun Revival, because a) it’s a great mag. b) because I’m planning to submit some short works to them as soon as I get get my lazy arse around to formatting according to their submission guidelines.

Hiding in some dark corner of my mind cowering. I think this may be due to the effects of a few really good migraines, some utter exhaustion, and some just plain sick.

This isn’t atypical for this time of year. The air quality in Augusta is horrendous — if you come here be prepared for a slight case of carbon monoxide poisoning, oh and there’s the pollen levels so high that even people without allergies get sinus/allergy trouble (how’s everything being coated, daily, by between 1/8 and a full inch of yellow sound?). Also, this time of year is the moronic, and useless daylight savings time (not moronic when first proposed by Franklin, but absolutely daft by the time that it was adopted and utterly useless for its supposed purpose of energy conservation) and that has a habit of utterly fucking me however long it takes before sunrise is happening at 6:30ish again.

Once I can find what happens next and coax it into the light I shall have it written and posted.

In the mean time, I’m keeping myself occupied by contemplating some episodic short stories to submit to Raygun Revival.

Yes folks! Salandra’s Revolution now has TWO WHOLE CHAPTERS! That’s 2x the content for HALF THE PRICE!!

That’s right, for a limited time only, you get TWO, count ‘em TWO chapters for the cost of HALF OF ONE!!

Get ‘em while they last.
