Well, got the release of the StarWars IV – VI set shortly after it came out, but haven’t gotten around to doing anything with it except watching the last scene of RotJ to listen to the Ewoks song there. Learned something interesting. There is no way to know who shot first in the original New Hope. The scene goes as follows:
Greedo has his blaster out and trained on Han.
Han has secretly drawn his blaster out of its holster.
There is a green flash and a puff of smoke that is the entirety of the fight. 1 shot, 2 shots, Greedo first, Han first or they both fire together is at this point impossible to determine conclusively, as there is no scene to show it. Only a blast and smoke.
Han’s an opportunist, he could have shot first.
Greedo is also a smuggler, opportunist, etc… he may have shot first.
Han is smart, there’re Storm Troopers all over the place. He may have chosen to not shoot first.
Both were ready to shoot, and Han had to bring his blaster up to fire and Greedo’s was ready. It could have been such a large cloud of smoke and a bright flash due to both firing together.
Who knows? Who cares. I don’t. I don’t see the point in caring. My ultimate conclusion: It’s Lucas’ damned movie. If he, after fixing it the way he always wanted it, has Han shoot after Greedo then so be it.
On a different note: I really need to quit getting vegetables that aren’t from the organic section of the store. In so far as we can tell there is much food poisoning from a head of “normal” lettuce that was purchased a few days ago. It tasted funny, but looked absolutely fresh…. hmmm….. doncha just love green food dies, and funny preservative stuffs? ~groan~
